Filling A Void Thru Sneakers

As a younger brother growing up with an older brother made life easier for me because I had someone who could help guide me through it. And while it was easier, being a younger brother still had its cons, like things they don’t want to do, you do them. My big brother was my role model and someone I aspired to be. He is the reason for many things in my life, one of which is my love for sneakers.

Just Bought a Cadillac

My love for sneakers didn’t happen Instantly, but I took an interest in it after the 2010 Cadillac incident in December when my cousin and I went shopping for birthday shoes. While in Footlocker, I saw a variety of shoes that I wanted but with limited funds. Picking one to leave with became a struggle, and I started to become indecisive. While I got the picks down to two, I was still unsure what shoes to buy, these Jordan 2’s “QF” or these all-black Cadillac? This choice is a no-brainer now, but then this decision was hard, and it didn’t help that Rich Boy- Throw some D’s song was playing in the store as well. After a long process, I made my decision and checked out the all-black Cadillacs.

Sneakerhead

Ready to show my brother my purchase, I was met with a look of shame and disappointment as my brother saw my Cadillac box. The look was something I’d never forget, and the look got worse for me after I told him what other options I had, and my cousin who’s birthday is also in the same month as mine, came in with a pair of Jordan ’20s. After the ridicule and shame, my brother made it his job for me to be fly like him. Every pair of shoes he had, he made sure I had as well(i.e., Christmas LeBron 9s). Through his teaching, I became knowledgeable and started collecting and making decisions on my own. I developed a love for sneakers and found a passion for collecting.

Lifestyle Sneakers

2019 I lost my brother, and I felt like I lost half of myself with his passing. Reselling sneakers is one of the many ways I honor him, his legacy, and still feel attached to him. He poured endless time, knowledge, wisdom, effort, money, etc., into my life. I aspired to be like him because he was that male figure and role model in my life. While Forever indebted, it brings genuine happiness to me, continuing his name and legacy by appreciating what he did for me. Spending my life trying to do so, I understand I will never be able to pay him back fully, but that in itself is great because it gives me something to live for and adds purpose to my life.
